2005 Viña Ardanza, Reserva, La Rioja Alta, Rioja, Spain

The comparison between 2004 and 2005 is interesting, in general , in Spain , with the later now gaining more and more plaudits. The  Ardanza reflects these general characteristics with 2004 maybe softer and silkier and 2005 perhaps richer and more savoury. Made as usual from 80%Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha and aged for  36 months in four and a half year old American casks, the wine continues to be the benchmark for traditional Rioja, its  beguiling combination of latent power and sensual approachability once again seducing the fortunate taster.
